Bob Kraemer, RA, NCARB

Principal

Bob Kraemer is principal and co-founder of Kraemer Design Group, an innovative architecture and design firm located in downtown Detroit. Since co-founding Kraemer Design Group in 1996, Bob’s focus has been to provide thoughtful architectural services within a number of industries—including hospitality, multifamily and retail.

Bob is an architect, interior designer, historic expert, and listener, guiding a talented team on revolutionary projects in Detroit and throughout the United States. He is known to constantly create fresh approaches to solving client’s needs and brings valuable insight to every building his firm touches. From exquisitely simple to simply exquisite, he likes to stretch the envelope of conventional design while fulfilling our client’s desires. Bob continuously brings together outside-the-box thinking and inside-the-industry knowledge.

His expertise has been instrumental in creating award-winning and innovative projects. Kraemer Design Group has won the Michigan Governor’s Award for Historic Preservation numerous times, as well as other local and national awards for influential projects across the firm’s portfolio. However, he is most proud of the firm being named to the list of “Cool Places to Work” in Michigan in a first-of-its-kind competition jointly held by Crain’s Detroit Business and the Grand Rapids Business Journal. Along with being named on the list of “Cool Places to Work” in Michigan, the firm also was named in the 2005 “Great Places to Work” competition held by Interior & Sources, a national industry trade publication.

In addition to leading the firm’s design team, Bob directs the company’s business development initiatives including leading the sales and marketing efforts. His award-winning design style has been at the leading edge in the architectural community in Detroit and continues to surprise and delight clients every day.

In 2018, Bob began a new venture with his wife and business partner Maureen Kraemer with the purchase and rehabilitation of Birch Lodge, a nationally designated historic hospitality retreat located on the shores of Trout Lake in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The property features 20 guest rooms and modern amenities in a classical mix of the elegance of The Inn at Birch Lodge and the mid-century modern design of The Motel at Birch Lodge, both housed on 20 acres of land. As an expert and enthusiast of historic preservation work, Bob relishes the opportunity to share this recently restored century-old gem with guests from near and far.
