Lexus Velodrome
The Lexus Velodrome in Detroit is the first and only indoor cycling velodrome in Michigan, and only the third indoor cycling venue in the United States. It includes three fields of play: a 166 meter wooden cycling track that banks up to 50 degrees, a flat concrete track around the perimeter for multipurpose use, and an infield for spectators and cyclists. The combined 64,000 square foot venue is enclosed by a 60 foot high inflated and climate controlled dome.
KDG provided planning services working with the client and inflatable dome consultant along with initial conceptual renderings to help secure an approved site location. The initial location was planned near Eastern Market, and was later relocated to a site in Midtown Detroit. Professional Architectural Services included providing assistance in obtaining permits for foundation work, and technical code consulting that worked through occupancy calculations for this unique type of assembly structure.
