The Elliott Building
As the Architect, Interior Designer and Historic Consultant on downtown Detroit’s historic Elliott Building, Kraemer Design Group turned the 1894-built former general goods store into 23 modern apartment units, as well as first-floor and basement retail space. Each of The Elliott’s apartments feature streamlined kitchens with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, new historic-replica aluminum windows and privacy shades. Contemporary bathrooms feature walk-in showers with ceramic tile surrounds, linen closets and ceramic floors. The top two floors of The Elliott house two-story penthouse units—the second floor of which was once the attic storage space left historically unfinished with exposed brick. Penthouse units feature open spiral staircases to access the upper-level bedroom and loft areas, as well as magnificent arched windows with fantastic views of Detroit.
