David Stott Building

As the Architect of Record and Historic Consultant on downtown Detroit’s historic David Stott Building, Kraemer Design Group renovated and restored this magnificent, 38-story Art Deco skyscraper into 107 luxury apartment units. Designed to embody the prosperity and grandeur of the Roaring Twenties, The Stott’s reddish-orange brick exterior—which features plaques of stylized eagles, lions and classical figures—was fully restored to its former glory. On the interior, our team oversaw the engineering and structural modifications required to adapt the building’s former office space for residential use. Our work was completed in accordance with state and federal preservation standards by meticulous documentation of existing historic materials, preparation of the historic preservation certification application and coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office and National Park Service.
