Occupying the majority of the Limestone Building, MRx has turned a former stone cutting facility into an office and research facility that focuses on the effects of innovative target drugs for numerous human diseases. A portion of MRx’s testing is performed with a MRI machine that screens mice. Therefore, KDG had to design this space with the MRI machine and the mice in mind. The mice provided the inspiration for a custom vinyl floor pattern in the main lab area, while the MRI machine provided a challenge in building materials. The overall image of this lab is far from the ordinary. The accent colors of green, purple, and orange project the image of a company on the move. The open office area has high windows with a view to the Huron River and 24’ ceilings that highlight the original wood ceiling and steel trusses.
