KDG

David Whitney Building

As the Architect of Record, Interior Designer, Historic Consultant and Procurement Agent on Detroit’s historic, award-winning David Whitney Building, Kraemer Design Group preserved and completely restored this 19-story structure and renovated it into the 108-apartment Residences at David Whitney, as well as the 136-room Aloft Detroit boutique hotel. Once covered in terra cotta cornices and decorative signage, KDG brought the building’s facade—which includes limestone, brick and granite panels—as close as possible to its original 1915 design. For the interior, our team preserved the building’s historical touches—including its terra cotta, mahogany and marble surfaces. The crown jewel of the building is a dramatic, skylight-covered, four-story atrium lobby that offers a truly unique sight to those who pass through it.
