The property at 1528 Woodward Avenue was originally constructed in 1916, but it received a major renovation in 1960 when it became the headquarters for the United Foundation. A modern curtainwall was affixed to the Woodward façade, and much of the interiors took on the look of the era. It has resided in the Grand Circus Park Historic District for many years, but previously was considered non-contributing. Now that the 1960 renovation has lasted more than fifty years, a portion of KDG’s historic consulting work for the property has been included in the district. Upon completion of its current renovation, 1528 Woodward will support a new first floor retail tenant and office tenants on the upper floors. The second floor space, however, is quite unique. It contains conference room spaces and a lounge that could host a variety of types of events, and its décor is being restored and updated in a style to compliment the remaining 60s era elements.
